Our CEO, Mags Godderidge, attended an #ActOnIICSA event in the Houses of Parliament, which aimed to encourage the government to adopt all 20 recommendations from the seven-year statutory Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).
The inquiry’s final report outlined the main findings about the extent to which state and non-state institutions failed in their duty of care to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
At the event, Professor Alexis Jay, Chair of the IICSA, challenged the Home Secretary, James Cleverly, to act on the recommendations “quicky and fully” to keep children safe from sexual harm. She said, “I just want to stress the point that there’s no need to spend more time on acquiring intelligence, consultations etc on these matters – we just have to get on and do it.”
Mags Godderidge says; “I joined the #ActOnIICSA working group because I want to see all children better protected from sexual harm. Every day at Survive, we see first-hand the long-term and sometimes lifelong impact of child sexual abuse. The 20 recommendations made by Prof Jay as Chair of the Independent Inquiry would go a long way to protecting children in the future”
