All-female brass band supports Survive once again!

Femmes Fortissimo blew past all expectations, raising an incredible £977.88 for Survive, at their 2024 charity concert.

The concert, that took place at York’s Acomb Parish Hall on Saturday 20th April, brought together over 40 brass players from bands across Yorkshire. Headed by Musical Director Clare Winter, the performance paid tribute to the 2024 York International Women’s Week theme, ‘One City, Many Women’s Voices’.

This isn’t the first time Femmes Fortissimo have supported Survive. Since 2022, the band has raised over £2,300 for the local charity, granting vital financial support.

York-based Survive is the only local charity offering specialist trauma-informed services and trauma specific interventions to adult survivors of sexual violence and abuse including child sexual abuse. The impact of sexual violence and abuse can be long-term and for some, life-long, affecting their physical health, mental health and wellbeing, and interpersonal relationships.

CEO of Survive, Mags Godderidge, said, “The money that Femmes Fortissimo and their generous audience has raised will help transform the lives of those living with sexual trauma. We cannot thank them enough for their continued support!”

Tracey McGuire, organiser of Femmes Fortissimo, said, “Femmes Fortissimo’s 2024 charity concert was a great success enjoyed by the audience and players alike. We are proud to hold this event as part of the wider programme of York International Women’s Week. Of course we are honoured to support the work of Survive.

As a women’s brass band it was important to us that we chose a charity that primarily helps women and girls, as well as one close to our York based location.”
