Information Service Report
Survive’s Information Service has seen a year of growth and
consolidation with dramatic and satisfying achievements. Survive’s website -
www.survive-northyorks.org.uk - was launched in October. It was a very exciting moment for us
and for Antonia in particular as she had worked very hard to build the site. The website
provides a holistic view of Survive covering such basic queries as who we are, why we are here,
what we provide and how you can contact us. The website also covers volunteering opportunities
in Survive, including an initial online application, and generic information on issues around
child sexual abuse and self-help strategies. Previous newsletters and current annual reports
feature under the category of ‘Organisation News.’ Antonia continues as the Webmaster and work
is on-going to maintain and develop the site.
This year, Survive was able to purchase many new books for the book
loan service and the Information Service was able to take a lead in the total reorganisation and
revamping of the Book Loan Service. There are now currently nearly 100 books, dedicated to the topic
of sexual abuse and its effects. These books are for loan to survivors, their families and friends,
professionals and other members of the public. The topics are very wide ranging and include self-harm,
dissociation, workbooks, male survivors, adolescents and teenagers, novels and books for therapists and
health professionals.
