Chair’s Report
As Chair, I welcome you to our Annual Report for 2003/04. This year has been a time of challenges, in learning to provide a professional service that is based on the highest of ethical guidelines. Sexual abuse is a demanding area to work within but Survive is striving to improve and strengthen our service. This year has also seen Survive grow, develop and change with more clients using the Frontline and Counselling services. It is very positive, knowing that the services we provide are much needed and valued by our clients.

Another development has been the funding and setting up of an Information Service, a job share post which has enabled the office to be covered daily and managed efficiently.

Our Project Manager, Sharon Jones, resigned in March. As a consequence, the Trustees have been busy fundraising, doing financial work and recruiting new trustees in order to see Survive maintain and sustain its work.

This year has seen several other developments within the organisation and I would like to highlight several:

1.    More volunteers have been trained by the Frontline Foundation Training Programme.
2.   Substantial progress on PQASSO Quality Areas, the quality assurance system from the Charities Evaluation
       Services.
3.    Dissociative Identity Disorder training for the Counselling Co-ordinators to support their work with more
       complex clients.
4.    Recruitment of an external Frontline Supervisor to give support to those that staff the Helpline.
5.    Recruitment of an external staff counsellor.
6.    Continuing work on establishing a service for male survivors.
7.    Continued programme of in-house training

I would like to thank all our sponsors, The City of York Council, the Selby and York PCT, the Community Fund, Lloyds TSB and the many donors who without their lasting support, Survive’s work would not be able to continue to provide a valued and well used service to survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I would also like to thank fellow trustees, the staff, the volunteers and the supervisors for all their hard work.
